About Smeeton Westerby

Smeeton Westerby Village HistoryThe picturesque village of Smeeton Westerby was once divided into the two separate hamlets of Smeeton and Westerby. The boundary believed to marked by two white stones next to Westerby House

Smeeton Westerby doesn't have any shops of it's own but it does have a traditional village pub, a village hall, a parish church plus several stables and farms. Originally it was a mainly farming village which also had several pubs, a shop, a butchers and a blacksmiths - the old blacksmith cottage is a very pretty cottage opposite Debdale Lane.

Location

The narrow village sits in gently rolling Leicestershire countryside between Kibworth Beauchamp and Saddington. It is 10 miles south east of Leicester and about six miles from the nearest market town and railway station at Market Harborough.

Shopping

The nearest shops are a 10-15 minute walk away in Kibworth Beauchamp. This excellent shopping centre includes a post office, supermarket, flower shop, beauticians, health centre, newsagents, estate agents, banks, hardware store, several takeaways, cafes, restaurants and pubs. There was a railway station but this closed in 1968.

Despite It's close proximity to the very popular village of Kibworth Beauchamp it still retains it own identity and character. This is probably because, as it is in a conservation area, there has been little change to the size of the village for some time.
